ACUPUNCTURIST
Hi, I’m Nicole.
My practice, Life Healing Life, in Minneapolis, MN, is all about something different than the typical “doctor fixes patient” model. I’ve always been an outlier in my field of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine as I love Western medicine and science, come from a family of innovators, and I’m not afraid to do things differently.
Actually, I love doing things differently. It’s a privilege and a passion.
At one point I was on track to be a geneticist, but a major plot twist in my life led me to obtain my master’s degree in Chinese medicine instead. Fast forward twenty plus years, and here I am — acupuncturist, holistic educator, and pioneer in women’s reproductive healthcare.
I’m grateful every day that I shifted from the tiniest of focus — human genes — to the biggest big-picture mindset and approach that the whole is always greater than the individual parts.
My approach started back in 2004 when I was a student intern. While my classmates wanted to speed things up, I asked to slow down and see fewer patients per shift. I wanted to layer in more education and more care. So every visit with me is a tapestry of traditional holistic medicine, cutting-edge science, and big philosophical questions: What does true fertility and wellness mean? What is it we really want in healing and healthcare? Spoiler, it’s bigger than babies or balanced hormones.
To date, I’ve been on-site for nearly a thousand embryo transfers, witnessed patient births, held space for deep griefs, and joyfully celebrated life's biggest wins. I love getting misty about it all.
I’ve always practiced medicine the way I wish it were practiced everywhere — with great care, depth, and intention. And it consistently delivers profound outcomes.
“No mud, no lotus.”

PERSONAL LIFE
Ah, that plot twist I mentioned earlier. My professional trajectory changed significantly after a traumatic sexual assault, suicide attempt, and a stay in the ICU followed by time in a psychiatric hospital. It was a brutal upheaval, but now I can thankfully echo the Stephen Colbert when he said,
“I love the thing I most wish hadn’t happened.”
I can’t separate my trauma from who I am, and I love who I am. I don’t believe everything happens for a reason, but I do believe we always have a choice in what we do with our hardest struggles, which is the foundation of my teaching for patients.
Adversity is an opportunity. Infertility, loss, trauma — they’re awful, but they’re also opportunities. I know this because I’ve lived it, and I witness it in the most stunning ways day in and day out through my work.
I love my life with my family. Mark is my partner in everything and the creative genius behind my graphics. George is my voracious-reading, big-hearted daughter, born in 2009. James is my hilarious, encyclopedic son, born in 2011.
Sylvie is the best rescue dog ever, and lives alongside other critters — it’s a bit of a mini-zoo over here.
I’m all about regular friend hangs, double dates, and karaoke parties.
