POSTPARTUM COMFORT
Sitz bath and perineal compress.
This simple pre-made solution and compress come in handy for post partum recovery and healing of the perineum. Use the solution in a squirt bottle mixed 50/50 with warm water while you urinate to eliminate any stinging or discomfort from mild tears, bruises or swollen tissue after giving birth. Or use it as a sitz bath. The compress burritos can provide extra ongoing comfort and promote healing of tissues too.
What you'll need.
A bunch of dried comfrey root from the bulk section of a co-op, or order online. You'll need at least two cups worth.
Cheesecloth, or a bunch of extra large gauze pads
Get to it.
Open up a 4x4 or larger section of gauze or cheesecloth.
Fill with 3-4 tablespoons of comfrey root and tie the ends so that the herbs are held loosely inside - make several of these.
In a big pot boil 2 quarts of water.
Add the little bundles of comfrey and let them simmer for 30-60 minutes.
Let everything cool.
Remove the little gauze bundles and set aside. Either freeze or refrigerate the liquid (depending on how long you do this in advance) the solution will last 1 wee in the fridge so freeze if in doubt.
Open up new gauze and layer it in double layers, again 4x4 squares.
Open up the cooked comfrey packets and put 2-3 tablespoons of the cooked herbs onto the new gauze.
Now fashion these new gauze pads into little burritos that will easily fit in your underwear against your perineum.
But these bundles in plastic wrap and freeze individually.
Take them out of the freezer and wear in undies with a pad for cool, soothing comfort.
